The world today is every changing and emerging as we do our best to navigate the climate we all now live in. Who would have thought that a year ago at this time we’d be where we are today? I certainly didn’t.
I was fortunate because I’d already been firmly established as a virtual executive assistant from the comfort and convenience of working from home. I had the best clients a person could work with, and I was always appreciated for the hard work I did for them.
Then COVID-19 reared its ugly head on the world, and what felt like almost an instant, everyone was thrust into a new way of life.
All of a sudden, working from home, if the job you had was able to do so, became the new norm. Zoom (don’t I wish I’d purchased some stock in that company 😊), that name is now as common place as the word Google. It’s become a new norm for so many. I think back to ten years ago and how different things would’ve been back then. In a way, technology has allowed things to happen that otherwise would have made dire situation turn tragic.
Now back to speaking about being a virtual assistant. Some people ask me, “What exactly is a VA? What do they do?” I think the best way to explain what a VA does is say he or she is someone who is usually an executive assistant, administrative assistant, or personal assistant to someone who needs someone to help them with tasks they need done.
Many C-Level executives rely on their assistants to help do calendar management, inbox (email) management, travel research & arrangements, research (both internet and phone), CRM management, documents, spreadsheets, presentation slides, and so much more. I believe the best VAs are those individuals who help take care of those items for the executive, taking them off their plates so they can focus on other high priority items. This allows them to focus on what’s truly important and building immense trust with their assistant.
A VA must be reliable and independent. They have a proactive mindset to see how to help and/or better improve areas to make the executive as successful as possible. I believe this is why I’ve been so successful with all my clients. They know they can depend on me. They know I’ll do a good job for them. They know that I’m constantly looking for way to improve efficency and time management to do the best job I can.
Maybe you’ll decide to try hiring a new VA. I believe that when you find the right VA, you’ll be grateful you did.
